Shelley Kalita received her Juris Doctorate with Honors from DePaul College of Law in Chicago, Illinois in June 2000. She graduated in the top 10% of her law class, achieving the honors of the Order of the Coif, and served on the DePaul Law Review. In addition, Shelley has a Master of Science degree from the University of Illinois in Forensic Science. In her previous career, Shelley served as the Laboratory Director of the Illinois Racing Board, directing horse racing’s drug testing programs, and also served as the General Counsel for the Illinois Racing Board specializing in horse racing and administrative law matters for 10 years. Most recently, Shelley was appointed by the Governor of Illinois to serve as a member of the Illinois Racing Board.
Shelley’s immigration and family law practice has spanned over 17 years. She has brought hundreds of immigration cases before the USCIS, the Department of State, National Visa Center, Foreign consulates, and the Federal District Court and immigration court. In addition, she provides personal and individualized attention to family law matters in the areas of divorce, child support and custody and foreign and domestic adoption in Cook County Illinois and the surrounding collar counties. She is known for her personal and compassionate approach to family immigration and family law problems. AILA PRO BONO BOND PROJECT
The Pro Bono Bond Project is sponsored by the Chicago chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. The project matches volunteer immigration lawyers with individuals in immigration custody to assist them in seeking affordable bond. Participating attorneys provide representation limited to bond hearings and , where agreed to by the parties, voluntary departure requests.
